Fund for Education Makes Record Impact

“I've been on the scholarship recipient photo roadshow over the past couple of days, and it's been awesome! These kids are genuinely proud of their accomplishments and are showing off their new Mid-Rivers swag to celebrate and be recognized for their hard work! Pretty amazing!”
Chief Communications Officer Erin Lutts, who conducted the Annual Meeting scholarship drawing, echoes Staci’s amazement at the quality of the youth in our region.
“These 19 kids showed up prepared and on time, they were friendly and engaging, and they were all so grateful. They were such good sports, actively participating in the meeting and listening respectfully while the Board conducted its business. It’s our hope that some of these kids will be inspired to participate in their Cooperatives after they complete their education – we would be so glad to have them.”
Mid-Rivers Higher Education Scholarships are made possible by the Fund for Education. In 1993, the Montana Legislature passed Senate Bill 190, allowing electric and telephone cooperatives to use unclaimed capital credit funds for educational purposes if they remain unclaimed for at least five years. Don Kimmel, a dedicated member of the Mid-Rivers Board of Trustees for nearly 40 years and a resident of the Flatwillow area north of Roundup, played a leading role in the introduction and passage of this legislation.
The Mid-Rivers Annual Report includes access to the list of patrons with an unclaimed capital credit balance that, if not claimed, will be transferred to the Mid-Rivers Fund for Education. Retired capital credits that remain unclaimed after five years are transferred into the Fund for Education. Mid-Rivers also makes donations into the Fund in memory of Trustees and employees.
Congratulations to this year’s scholarship drawing recipients!
