Scammers lurk in the shadows, waiting to prey on your emotions. Like classic monsters, they thrive on fear and confusion, hoping you’ll let your guard down so they can steal your secrets.

To protect yourself, always take time to stop and think through any request you receive, and verify the identity of the person or organization making the request.

• Stop: If you receive a sudden, urgent request, treat it like a knock at the door on a stormy night—pause and listen before you answer. Real friends (and organizations) won’t mind if you take a moment to check for ghosts.
• Think: Consider the situation carefully. Is this type of request common? Do you truly know who is making the request? Is this request a trick or a treat? Ask yourself if it’s normal, or if something feels off—like a creaking floorboard in an empty house.
• Verify: Before you share any information, shine a flashlight on the situation. If it’s a call, hang up and dial back using a trusted number. If it’s a message, reach out by another method to make sure it’s not a phantom in disguise.

Most scammers are like vampires – inviting themselves in only if you let them.  Don’t let your digital life become a graveyard of lost privacy.  Legitimate callers and businesses will understand your caution.  You’re not being man – you’re warding off evil spirits.
